This is a walk-through similar to the previous one – Little Furry Devil.
Concept
For this little project, I doodle a bit and go about looking at different pictures and reference images to get the feel. I search for images of gorillas, and orangutans.

Once I decide on a particular pose, I lower the opacity of the layer and start blocking out the major areas to get a clean affect.

Line Art

I start sketching in a new layer, over the ‘blocking’ layer to create a clean line art.

Color And Value
Like in the other artwork, I keep the color and value is separate layers.

Using the line art as a guide, I paint the value using gray tones, and put in the flat color in another layer. After that, the opacity of the line art is reduced to around 30%-50%. The color layer is placed above the line art and the value layer, and layer mode of the color layer is changed to multiply.

All the layers may be now merged together.
Painting

After the layers are combined, I take a smaller and softer brush and detail the fur and other skin texture of the ape.

Use other colors than base colors while giving highlights – that way, the artwork would look less monotonous. For highlights, I used a yellowish color, and I used a bit of pink near the chest and face.
