Peacock Workshop [Hide/Show]
When one speaks of Peacock, it is usually with reference to the male of the two species in Pavo familiy, Pavo cristatus (Indian) and Pavo muticus (Green). They are best known for the male’s extravagant tail feathers. The female of the species are called peahen, which are usually brown or a toned down color. The peacock have their signature tail, to display it, and attract a mate… more at Peacock Workshop
Yesterday, you saw how to draw a standing peacock. Today, we will see how to draw a dancing peacock.
Peacock are amazing looking birds. The male of these specie, during the mating season, furl out their elaborate feathers, and it is a beautiful sight.
Construction
Even though a dancing peacock may look intimidating to draw, once you put down the construction lines, it is quite simple.

The whole of the feather volume (dark blue), when it is fanned out, is roughly a semi-circular shape. The neck and body (green) is pear shaped. Study the flow lines (light blue arrows) before starting to sketch.
Sketching
Almost all the detail you need to draw, while drawing a dancing peacock from front view, is its feathers. The body, head and legs are simple details.

Observe the pattern of the feathers. Recent studies have shown that the feathers of birds are like scales of reptiles, and it is quite obvious looking at some reference photos of peacocks.
Line Art
Clean out the construction lines. Hide the construction layer, if you are doing this on a computer.

If you are drawing on paper, you can erase the faint construction lines, and may go over with a dark pencil or ink.

I was an art major in high school. My art hung at our cities museum. I did all the art for anything the school needed. Started college, did not go into art, for I think art is subjected, and what looks good to one may not look good for another. I put down my paints and pens, got married had twins, worked two jobs along with my husband and life took over. I have grown older, my children are 30. I have had 6 major back surgeries, lost the love of creating. I happened upon your wonderful page, I took my pencil and a scrap of paper and followed your instructions I feel free! Thank you from the heart of an artist that lost her way. Rose T Shirley Blessed Be
