This clipart was created using Inkscape. It is quite simple to illustrate it once you figure out how to tweak the nodes of the ellipse paths created by the tool.

This is continuation of the walk-through of illustrating a vector art of Chinese Dragon. Check out Part 1 if you have not done so already.
Using the imported image as a guide, start creating shapes for the scales.
An easy trick that you can use while drawing lot of complex details, is to have the imported line art at the top, but with reduced opacity. Make it about 30% to 50% transparent.
Giving a gradient for the scales, can be a bit time consuming, but gives a pleasant effect.

This is less of a tutorial and more of a walk-through of creating a vector illustration of a Chinese dragon. I will be applying several techniques, which are posted earlier.
As with most of the artworks, I start roughing out different ideas, and then settle on one. After that, a definite lineart is created.
After importing the lineart into Inkscape, the basic bulk of the dragon shape is created.
Sending the base shape behind the imported image, more smaller parts are outlined.
This video shows the process I used in doing most illustration in Inkscape. Here, I have chosen a simple subject – a dog house.
