This would be a simple walkthrough on drawing a cat - the profile or the side view.
I did this particular sketch in GIMP, but you can use any software - or even try it out on paper with pencil.

If you are doing this on paper, draw the guides using fainter pencil strokes. (You do not need to use blue or any particular color). In GIMP (or other software), start with a new layer.

Bisect the top right quadrant and then draw a triangle at the end of it. (Do the same on the top left, if you want a right facing cat). This would be for the ear.

Draw a similar, but rounded triangle on the left bottom. (Right bottom if you are doing the opposite). This would be a guide to draw the mouth and nose.

Looking back at the couple of tutorial posts I made here, I realized that I had made a lot of complex and ‘Advance’ level tutorials lately. So, here is a simple tutorial that should get you started with your favourite vector editor. I used Inkscape.

The main single part of a bell is its waist, crown and lip. Start of by creating a squat rectangle. In Inkscape you would want to convert the shape to a path (Path -> Object to Path) so that we can sculpt the main shape out of this.

Pull up the top segment of the rectangle to make the crown of the bell.

This is quite a simple technique you can use to create drop shadows of objects you have designed in Inkscape.

Let us first look at a simple example.
Make a copy of the object (rectangle in this case) and move it few units to the bottom and to the right.

Then, change the color to black or dark gray.
